April Vegan Foodie Swap from The Veggie Nook

You know what’s awesome? Coming home from a long day of work, to find a pink care package eagerly waiting for you.

You know what’s even better? Knowing that the same scenario will reoccur the following month and then the next month and then the next month and so on. Ok, so my next package may not be pink, but coming home to a package full of goodies is pretty fantastic in my books.

Thanks to the lovely MeShell, people all over Canada can get in on the action. All you have to do is head on over to MeShells blog and fill out the form. This is for Canadian residents only (because paying customs can be a real bitch sometimes), but if you’re an American, don’t you fret as there’s one going on in the U.S. of A as well over at The Verdant Life. Once you’ve filled out the form, around the 7th of each month, you’ll receive an email from MeShell with your vegan food swap partner’s info. You’re required to contact them to get any additional info (mailing address, allergies and such), then it’s shopping time! This is my favourite part about the whole experience, I love dancing through the rows of the natural food store, checking out all the local wonders we have to offer….it’s hard not to go overboard, but to keep spending in check, the limit of the swap is $20 Canadian (eh). By the 15th of the month, package all your goodies up and get em in the mail. Then on the last day of the month (or on the 1st, cough cough), post an entry about all the wonderful items your partner so kindly sent you.

For my first swap, I was paired with MeShell herself! Knowing she is originally a Saskatchewanite,  Saskatchewanonian, Saskatchewanian, I had to pick up some Saskatoon Berry jam, which I’m pretty sure was a good choice. To find out what else I sent her, check out her Food Swap post over at her blog!

My pretty package came from Gabby over at The Veggie Nook. Here’s what it included:

  • Giddy Yoyo Raw orange chocolate bar
  • Avocado Oil Potato Chips
  • Bueno Bean Coffee
  • A tulip cookie cutter
  • Ginger Cayenne Chocolate Bar
  • Starbucks Via (from her new job)
  • 2 Vega Sport workout packets
  • Artisana Cashew Butter
  • Vanilla Balsamic Syrup & Glaze
  • Chocolate covered puffed quinoa
  • Green smoothie recipe

Gabby definitely knows how to put together a great package. The chocolate bars seemed to evaporate the second they were opened (hmmm, wonder how that happened ;)). I’ve been hoarding the potato chips, for fear that I’ll never find them again and I’ve been saving the wonderful coffee she sent to enjoy on the weekends. It’s just not the kind of coffee you swig back during the weekdays, this stuff needs to be savoured. I love the thoughtful touch of the handwritten letter and smoothie recipe, when I try out the recipe I’ll be sure to tell you all how delicious it is! As this is Gabby’s recipe, I’ll only be re-posting it if it happens to make an appearance on her blog, so keep an eye out. Thanks Gabby, I really loved everything!

I seriously recommend getting in on the action, it’s so much fun picking things out and discovering other Canadian blogs. Plus getting yummy items that you may never have had the chance to try otherwise is pretty rad.

I can’t wait till next month!!

  1. I’m pretty keen on packages myself!! It looks like you sent (and received) a lovely haul of goodies, especially the chocolate covered puffed quinoa!!!

  2. This looks likes loads of fun! I did a swap years ago with someone in Australia and learned firsthand about what got confiscated from her box. A tin of Old Bay seasoning was deemed too dangerous to deliver! You guys are smart to set it up by country.

  3. Ahh! This makes me ridiculously happy! And lol, I’m totally a Saskatchewanian still…which is a fun word to say. It makes me feel like I’m from some super exotic locale. But yeah, I definitely want to get in on this, it looks like so much fun!
