It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

No, no, no, I’m not talking about Christmas, I’m talking about the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale silly! That’s right people, from April 21 to April 29, 2012, groups from all over the world will be donning their aprons and throwing vegan bake sales. The best part about the event is that each group gets to decide what venue to use, what goodies to bake and which non-profit the proceeds will be donated.

Do you like eating food? Do you like helping animals? Do you like eating food while helping animals? Well aren’t a you a lucky duck. For the third year in a row, both Calgary and Okotoks will be taking part in all the fun!

CALGARY, ALBERTA
Where: Community Natural Foods Chinook Station Market, 202 – 61st Avenue SW
When: Saturday, April 21st, 2012
Time: 10am until 3pm (or sell out)
Facebook Event Page

OKOTOKS, ALBERTA
Where: Okotoks Clock Tower, N Railway Street (Downtown Okotoks)
When: Saturday, April 28th, 2012
Time: 10am until 3pm (or sell out)
Facebook Event Page

Half of the funds raised at the bake sales will be donated to R.A.S.T.A. Rescue and Sanctuary for Threatened Animals, an amazing non-profit organization committed to providing lifelong care to abandoned and abused animals, with a great focus on farm animal rescue and advocacy. The other half will be donated to the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation, a charity that provides humane rehabilitation for injured and orphaned wildlife, and also promotes awareness and encourages greater stewardship of native wildlife through engaging educational programs.

There will be all kinds of vegan baked goods! Cakes, brownies, cookies of all kinds, tarts, cupcakes, the list goes on! Among the homemade noms will also be gluten-free and savory items. Yes, even I will be attempting some gluten-free items, and no, I’m telling you which ones because I want you to actually buy them ;) All generously contributed baked goods will be sold by donation, so buyers can pay as much as they like. For those that plan on stopping by, we encourage you to bring reusable bags or containers to help cut down on waste that may be created by the event (it is Earth Day on the 22nd ya know). On top of all the amazing food, we are also hoping to hold some raffles to give away some incredible items generously donated by local businesses, so drop by and enter for your chance to win!
